Twan

Meet Twan. This 6-year-old Belgian Malinois has two goals in life: get the bad guys, and protect his handler, Sgt. R.L. Frank. Recently, Twan, who is also a sworn office of the DeKalb Police Department, was in pursuit of both of his goals when he was shot in the snout. He was referred to Georgia Veterinary Specialists from North DeKalb Veterinary Clinic. At GVS, veterinary surgeon Dr. Lori MacDougall removed 10 bullet fragments from his nose and stomach. No one was more concerned than Sgt. Frank, who never left his side except for during surgery. Not just his partner on the job, Twan also lives with the officer. Just a few months after his surgery, Twan was cleared to go back on the job. Good thing. In the three and half years the K-9 has been on the force, he’s helped take more than 67 people into custody and aided in $1.6 million in drug apprehensions.
